The S9 Bitcoin miner from Bitmain is their newest offering in their hardware lineup. Released in June of 2016, they are coming in a number of models. The Antminer S9 miner models are available in different speeds based on the batch order. Hashing speeds are: 14Th/s, 13.5Th/s, 13.0Th/s, 12.0Th/s and 11.5Th/s. At the wall, the S9 miner consumes about 1,330 to 1,450 watts under full hashing load.
The design is very similar to the Antminer S7 unit. The S9 is a little longer than the S7 but outside of that, basically the same. They both share the same administration interface that the entire Bitmain miner family uses. It is a very simple setup to get the unit mining, estimated setup time is under 5mins once you have it plugged in and on your network.
The performance increase is amazing compared to the S7 miners. With very similar power consumption, this is a major upgrade from Bitmain and these will become the majority of Bitcoin SHA256 mining power on the Bitcoin network. Out of warranty service is still very high with only a few parts to support or replace in the event of damage.
Parts normally needing service after 12-18 months of service are: (3) Hashing Boards, Front or Rear Fans and Control board. Normally you will see one or both fan bearings go out and if they are hosted in a high temperature environment, you will see a hash board failure potentially. Control board and PSUs have very low failure rates.
